Minecraft has been around for nearly 20 years, but there is a growing community of people playing the addictive sandbox game on their own, with a variety of devices available to help get the experience off the ground.
A new app called Minecraft Controller will let players take control of a Minecraft server, or create one for friends to join.
The app is free to download and can be found on Google Play, though it has a price tag of £1.99, which sounds steep for something that can easily be used with just a controller.
The developers say that the app is “in no way affiliated with Mojang, nor the Minecraft franchise”, and that the title is “just a simple way for you to connect with your friends”.
Minecraft Controller can be used for single player or multiplayer, and can support up to four players in the same session.
It comes with an interface similar to that of a gamepad, and you can also control the server with the Xbox One controller, and use it with any controller, from Xbox 360 or PS3 to Nintendo Wii U. To get the game to run smoothly, you’ll need to have Minecraft running on your machine, with Mojangs server software running on it.
“You can use Minecraft Controller to control the Minecraft server on your Xbox One or Xbox 360 console, or you can control Minecraft on any PC that supports Minecraft,” the developers explain.
“Minecraft Controller will allow you to set up the Minecraft servers on your Windows or Mac computer and you will be able to launch and manage Minecraft servers in the console or PC application.”
If you want to connect to a different server from a different computer, you can then click “Play” in the app and a player will appear.
This is a very simple way to get the servers running and connected, and Mojangs software will automatically connect you to the correct server, which you can configure on the fly.
It’s a simple experience, but one that should help anyone who’s interested in getting into the game.
You can get Minecraft Controller from Mojang’s website.
