If you’re planning to host a home network for your kids, you’re probably concerned about DNS hijack attacks.
The internet has become so sensitive that the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCSCIC) has issued a new policy on what it will and won’t accept in order to protect users from DNS hijacks.
In its new policy, NCCIC outlines three main types of attacks: 1.
Domain name hijacking attacks 2.
DNS server hijacking 3.
DNS servers that are intentionally spoofed to look like legitimate servers.
In all three cases, the goal is to get the internet to stop responding to your website.
“DNS servers are a legitimate part of your internet environment, but if you are hosting them in your home, then they may pose a risk to you,” the NCCSCIC says in its guidance.
NCCIC’s guidance states that you can safely and effectively block these types of domain name hijack attempts, but that you should also be mindful of the fact that these attacks are often targeted against you.
You can find more information about this in the NCEI’s guidance.
