The researchers say the compromised accounts contained personal information including social security numbers, email addresses, and email addresses of anime enthusiasts.
Animespot, an anonymous security research group, said it found a backdoor on a server hosted on the Anime.tv server that had been used to host Anime.org, Anime Discord, and AnimeDB accounts.
AnimeDB and Anime.net, Anime’s other anime sites, are not believed to have been compromised.
Anime.tv’s official website was not affected.
The company said in a statement to Business Insider that it is investigating the breach.
Anime.co.jp and AnimeTV.co., two other anime websites, were not affected by the hack.
An Anime.io server was also compromised, according to the researchers.
An Anime.cloud.com was also breached, though it’s unclear how the attack occurred.
Anime Discord has not yet responded to Business News Daily’s request for comment.
An anime enthusiast’s personal information was accessed in the hack, AnimePot said.
Anime enthusiasts often store sensitive data on their computer, and their personal information is stored in multiple accounts, like a Gmail account, for example.
Anime fans are often members of anime fandom groups or subreddits, Anime.pot said.
Animatespot said it’s working with Anime.info to find the source of the breach and has sent a report to Anime.data, a company that sells data to anime and gaming companies.
Anime data is a public database of anime fans and other users.
Animated fans may want to consider a backup of their account information before sharing anime related content, Animepot said, because it could contain personal information.
The data stored in anime.data accounts may include information about an anime’s creator, creators, and cast, Anime Pot added.
